The Awakening World
April 11th, 2041 A.D. - 2055 A.D.
The first half of 2041... For an entire year, the humans were slaves to the Naruen. Thousands were put to work in factories making weapons for them to wage war. A few thousand more were even sold to the Nadiar (Dark Elves) and were never seen or heard from again. However, after the treaty was made, a union between the two races was formed. The Humans would trade them their technology for knowledge of the arcane magics. Every year, a few hundred young people of all races were invited North to a school in what was once Washington State, on an island in the middle of Crater Lake, an ancient school from Rhungara had survived the trip into this new world. It was restored to its former glory. It was known as The Academy of Adengard, built by the Descendkin. It was the place where children were sent to learn magic, combat and how to make a difference in the world. When their families were fighting one another, their children were learning together, even the Naruen (Elves) and and rarely Evargeist (Orcs). It was hoped that the spirit of the school would create peace between factions, but it really just taught them to learn more dangerous magics. And now the humans were invited. The Nadiar and other races didn't agree to this, but the Headmaster of Adengard at the time was anm Naruen and thereafter was either a Human or a Naruen, so there was nothing they could do. There were other schools around the world and even more popped up after the humans learned of magic, but Adengard remained the greatest amongst them all - until it was destroyed during The Great War.
The Year was 2045 A.D.In this year, Henry Duncan founded TWU, The World Union. A collection of ambassadors from each Race, Nation, Kingdom or powerful Faction. TWU would act like a United Nations, but unlike the UN - TWU actually had power. The choices they've made have altered the world in many ways - many times without even the public's knowledge.
That is when another race of beings made themselves known. These people weren't even known to the Naruen. Simply because their civilization was underwater. They called themselves The Solantans and they appeared humans for the most part: they had gills, they had the ability to harden their skin and grow armor and they were made of 5% more water than the average human. They were brought to the surface by the fusion of the two worlds and they felt they needed to make themselves known, so that they would not suffer another great disaster as they had. They claim that over half their population died when the ocean floor cracked and swallowed half of their great city of
Sotham. They brought with them a great deal of knowledge of what the rest of the world was like across the Pacific. The land they called Sorai. Which encompassed the ocean lands from Hawaii, Australia, Japan and Southeast Asia. And with their arrival the mystery of what happened to these lands was also discovered. They had found surviving humans and they shared information and while the rest of the world were fighting in the first few months of the fusion, the Solantans and the humans in the East were working together to solve a problem.
The citizens of The Sorai Islands, what was once the Pacific, along with the Solatans, had already been exploring their new world and came back with some pretty interesting information. It seems that entire islands and land masses now existed out in the Pacific.
It appears that Mt. Fuji in Japan had turned into a super volcano at some point because nothing remains of Japan, except for a small island around Tokyo - the rest has been reclaimed by the sea. The same fate goes for the islands and coastlines of Southeast Asia. The stranger fates however belong to the lands of China and Australia.
Australia was gone, but was seemingly caught or at least turned into part of a massive coral reef. Massive earthquakes had torn the small continent apart and left it in pieces and partly underwater, about 20% remains above the surface. This is where the Solantans came into this world. Their land was
The Sorai Islands and their capital city was Sothom; - an underwater city made of ancient corals. They told the human they would share the oceans if they stayed East of what they once called Hawaii. And they would join TWU, if it meant they would be given assistance against their enemy. Which they believed would soon become a threat to InterCity and the rest of the world as well.
The Solatans once considered the area sacred land and never ventured in the area, but after the blinding light and earthquakes (the fusion of the two worlds). They ventured back there and found humans building a great city. Together with members of TWU, the Solatans brought them across the ocean to meet these people. Who were assumed to be the survivors of The EUG (Eastern Union Guard), made up of the nations of China, Russia, Korea and the rest of Asia. They were able to pick up weak radio signals and have heard them refer to themselves at
The CITADEL. Contact was attempted, but anytime they went within a mile of shore, they would be attacked. The style of rockets were identified as Chinese models. They managed to get close enough to see people on patrol boats and they appeared to be constructing a massive wall that surrounded the entire coastline. From reports taken and theories made. It is assumed they had found a way to combat the monsters within the fog of change that swept across Eastern Europe, Russia and China. Years would pass before the first actual witness to the inside of this strange metropolis would be revealed. But as the years went on, more silence and the wall only got bigger and the skies only grew darker.
The Year was 2050 A.D.The Naruen split into two different groups: one that wishes to no longer deal with the humans and those that do. It caused a rift in power among the Naruen and those that wished to remain in InterCity became outsiders of a sort. This is also the year the first of the Ancient Dragons was spotted.
President Duncan had had a brief encounter with the massive beast almost fifteen years ago on his way to see what was left of Chicago. The Naruen spoke of them and how each had carved out a territory in this world. Immortal, wise and their power was unmatched. There is no rhyme or reason to when they'll appear, but it's never been good for any who cross them. Still, the Naruen and other races see them as protectors of the world. However, a group of InterCity soldiers were sent to a fort on the outskirts of what was now called Gerdan (American Southwest) in what was once Arizona and found the fort destroyed and no bodies were found. The Naruen say the same thing has happened several times before and they've always blamed the Ancient Dragons. This dragon was spotted near time the dragon simply circled InterCity for a few hours before it vanished into the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
The fact that there was still so much out there they didn't know or understand is why Henry Duncan commissions a group of explorers to set out and explore the world: to find what has changed and bring back any relics of Earth for safe keeping. The media dubbed them the 'Neonauts' and their job was to chart and map the new world. The Neonauts gained fame and fortune and a legendary hero status amongst the citizens of InterCity. They found that in many parts of the world, sections of old Earth still remained, some intact. In some places it looked like only a few years have passed, but others were entirely Jenjarian in origin.
The Year was 2051 A.D.North America had changed greatly and because there was no more United States and because the regions they had named their lands by no longer applied. They simply started to call the lands by what the Jenjarians had known them by.
The deserts had taken back the the region known as California, Oregon and the rest of the American Southwest had been renamed Gerdan. An ancient desert filled with massive shifting sand dunes, old forgotten cities long since abandoned.
The Pacific Northwest from Oregon to Alaska returned to near rain-forest status, it is now known as Dresgard.
The Midwest's varied landscape have been the most altered. The Great Planes region is now a barren dustbowl with only patches of land that is considered farm-able. The Rocky Mountains are even more rocky and have risen in height and width - stretching farther in every direction. The land West of the Mississippi is a vast mountain and canyon filled region brought about by a great alteration to the Mighty Mississippi, which was reformed during the earthquakes. It is now filled with lush and new forests, resembling the jungles of South America. The earthquakes have created hundreds of plateaus, some as large as the island of Manhattan. And many of the animals that now inhabit the area aren't even known to the Jenjarian races. The whole area is know simply referred to as
The Wildlands. From the mountains, primordial forest and vast open rolling hills and to the river lands. The Wildlands stretch from The Rocky Mountains to The Appalachians. The Neonauts considered the land too dense and populated with strange monsters to even attempt to explore. Instead they traveled North.
They were amazed to find more humans in the area and learned that a colony was set up around what was once Chicago. This was mainly the former occupants of Europe that had fled to America during the nuclear strikes. When they reached Chicago, they survived the fusion and in a short time, the city had become overrun by forests. A massive spring had been opened due to the earthquakes brought by the fusion of the two worlds. Lake Michigan had been turned into a massive waterfall, that then flowed South to join the great canyon river that had become The Mightier Mississippi. The city of Chicago had become a concrete jungle and simply renamed
Arcadia. The Europeans that settled here would go on to survive and thrive in this region for the next few hundred years. They would even set up their own monarchy like the days of old. But for the first century, they would be nothing more than bands of roaming scavengers, living of what remained of the old world and trying to survive in the new one.
From there, the Neonauts traveled North into Canada and what the Rhungara now called Amncrom.
That is about the time they lost radio contact with Duncan and the rest of InterCity.
The Year was 2055 A.D.While its construction would never end, the majority of InterCity's base planning was done.. A massive celebration as the dream of this sprawling metropolis was finished. 15 years of work of tearing apart the ruins of San Francisco, using it to build the foundation of a city. It would hopefully be the beacon of hope in this strange new world that Duncan thought it could be. Duncan, who was now fifty years old and didn't seem quite his normal self. A man who saved humanity through his fusion bomb, fought to free them from the Naruen and helped design this vast metropolis. Some speculate he changed because he never found his wife after the fusion of the two worlds. Only made worse during the ceremony when Orlen gave a saddened speech about all those that were lost on Earth and Jenjara and how he wishes he could have saved more.
The city would only grow in the coming years. It was a marvel. At night the glow of lights from the skyscrapers would give off an aura of a bubble or shield around the city. It was named InterCity because it was meant to bring the two worlds together in a place where they could leave in peace and not in fear of the outside world.
By this time, the Neonauts had managed to repair an old radio station and transmit their signal even farther. They had reached Hudson Bay, Ontario. And there they found another large group of humans have banded together to create a city on the edge of the massive Hudson Bay. And they weren't alone. The Naruen called them The Wulfkin. Great Wolf beings with the ability to speak. They were the wise protectors of
Novard, a sacred and ancient land. They found a settlement and the Wulfkin offered them protection, food and shelter in return for their loyalty to protect these lands from those outsiders that would see it destroyed. They helped the humans using their knowledge of the Arcane Arts, which was vastly greater than the Naruens.
The Ehlderkin trusted and created these Wulfkin with their most powerful spells to protect all their knowledge. They helped the humans create the great city of
Echonim, The Kingdom of Ice. A city with half above the waters of Canada's Hudson Bay and the other half below. Echonim then established their own sister school of Adengard called
Parafahl. The Wulfkin shared the land with a dragon-like being known as The Dragonar. They claimed that they were dragons, but just had a distant ancestor. During the time on Jenjara, these Dragonar and the Wulfkin were at constant war with one another. Both claiming that they were the protectors of this land. And after the fusing of the two worlds. They put their differences aside and worked together to protect this land. And because they didn't want to deal directly with the humans, they allowed the Wulfkin to be the ambassadors of Novard. The Dragonar stayed north in there mountains and the Wulfkin patrolled the valleys below.
From there, the Neonauts had picked up a faint radio signal that pointed them towards what was once called New York City. That is when they found the occupants of Earth that had to make the longest journey. What remained of the entire nation of Japan had settled in the abandoned and partly destroyed metropolis of New York City.
The city had already become a major colony for Europeans and what remained of The United States. But when the Japanese were forced to abandon their home island, they first traveled through the Pacific but met great monsters and were forced to turn away. They had amassed a grand fleet and managed to save at least a million citizens. They then traveled along the coast of Asia and saw the formation of what would become CITADEL. They chose to ignore them and continued through the Red Sea and into the Mediterranean Sea. They found the entire land of Europe engulfed in fog and the entire continent of Africa covered in ash and flames. They managed to find an island to settle for a few months. They gathered resources, fuel and supplies. They also managed to get a hold of a radio and found a signal from the NAC inviting all humans to take shelter in North America. They then prepared for the long journey across the Atlantic Ocean.
They lost a few ships and several thousand lives when great sea monsters attacked them, but when they arrived on the shores of what was once the island of Manhattan, they were instantly welcomed. Their ships were taken apart to help rebuild the city and protect it from the outside world. The two remaining bridges across the bay became the most defended structures in the region. By the time the Neonauts arrived there: they had established their own government, an economy and were on their way to being fully sustained with food and resources. They had farms outside the city and were taking what they needed from the abundant forests that had appeared out of nowhere because of the fusing of the two worlds. Since the number of Japanese greatly out numbered the rest of the nationalities that had joined the New York Colony. When the time came to vote on a name for the city. Neo-Tokyo won in a landslide.
The people of Neo-Tokyo told the Neonauts about another settlement, one who's only motive was death and destruction and that they should stay away from. It laid West near what was once Pittsburgh. A fortress that was now called
Haven. On March 21st, 2055 A.D.. a capsule fell just outside of San Diego, what would later become called
Saigard. Inside this capsule, a family was found. Their origins were unknown. When the occupants of the capsule woke up, they were confused, but the citizens of Saigard and all of Gerdan saw it as a gift from God and they believed that these people were sent to guide them towards a brighter future. Many thing they were part of yet a third alternate world that has fused with the Earth or perhaps even sent from the future to save mankind in these dark times. It still isn't known where they came from.
The were known as
The Audley Family and they would become a royal family of sorts. The first generation took all this information in with a grain of salt and just went with it because they had no memory of any world and this was all new to them. But the second generation of Audley children born would take on the mantle with the belief that they were some kind of deities, the godlike figures they were worshiped as. Like nearly all of Gerdan's human citizens believed them to be.
The Emnest Nation as it would soon be called, carved out a landscape farther than the original land they bought from the Naruen. The Naruen Nation was in a minor civil war at the time and could do little to stop them. Over a dozen major cities now existed in Emnest Lands, from the growing metropolis of InterCity in the North, to the ruins and now wastelands of what was once Los Angeles, and far East to what was once Vegas; with hundreds of small towns between. However, they have to share portions of the land with the Nadiar who occupy vast underground cities in the area. Conflict between the two races has existed ever since and usually starts when an entire town of humans goes missing and are enslaved by the Nadiar (Dark or Drow Elves). Sometimes the humans just vanish altogether and are never seen again.
In the Far North,
The Kingdom of Amncrom, the citizens of Echonim followed suit and elected their own royal family known as
The Kartright Family. And while they weren't as large, Arcadia in the Wildlands continued the trend and made the
Sonoqualm Royal Family. The Kartrights had earned their title, instead of just being lucky enough to fall from the sky. The First Generation of Kartrights, George, died defending Echonim from a series of attacks by strange beasts in the first five years the fusion. His children would become soldiers and then powerful political figures. Any member of the family no matter how small was recognizable and they achieved something of a celebrity status when they donated their family fortune to help rebuild the poorer cities around Echonim. However, unlike the Audley family (who control all aspects of Saigard's Government), The Kartrights simply oversee, they have one family member who is chosen to oversee Parliament and another who oversees the military, economy, education and so forth. They advise, guide and have a vote, but no absolute power.
The Kartrights are also the only members who chose to remain in TWU (The World's Union) after it would collapse due to the upcoming Great War. In the years that followed, Echonim and the Kartrights remained Intercity's closest ally. They saw InterCity for what it was built for and what it could be again one day and they did everything in their power to keep Duncan's dream alive.
